Enterprise, AL Rue21-RUDE!

The associates are required to sell fragrances. They have a goal number to sell every day and if they don't then their hours will get cut. It is a very manipulative way to keep employees. The associates can't make a customer purchase a fragrance. They may not have enough money, may not like the fragrances, may be allergic to them, or may just get sick of being harassed by the associates and managers. I'm suprised that my local store gets any business at all because their manager, Melanie, is always rude, pushy, and loud. She never takes no for an answer from her customers even after they have repeatedly told her they didnt want to purchase any fragrances or that they do not have money to guy one. I have been told by many people that they do not shop there because Melanie & Justin are so obnoxious and rude. They yell at their employees from across the store & I have also heard them using vulgar language and curse words on the sales floor. They are mean to their employees and are only concerned about theirselves. They do not genuinely care what their customers want or need. Rue21 needs to evaluate the way they treat their customers and employees.

Get a new manager

well i tried calling but i have gotten no answer but i would like to say that i as a customer i suggest that all managers should be checked upon as an employee because its not the first time but everytime i go into the store at rue 21 in ONTARIO,OREGON the manager monica i dont know her last name but everytime i go in she either gives me and my freinds dirty looks or if she asks me if i need help and i say yes she gets an attitude and pretends to not know where anything is like this one time i asked one of the employees if they had a certain dress i wanted and she knew i could hear her so she tells the employee thats all we have in stalk and she knows it1..um obvi i dont know if im asking, also yesterday when i went to go browse around you know just to see what new stuff were in as i was leaving she screamed out thank you in a rude tone and i didnt respond so she decided to yell something else out and i didnt understand what she said but out of all employees i think managers should be the last to be yelling rude things to customers especially when i did nothing to her now i dont know if its a personal issue she has with me because i dont know her but she shouldnt be treating anyone like that especially yelling rude thing out as we are walking out of the store and if her goal is to make people feel uncomftorable when trying to shop then she sucks at her job, as manager, that being said i would appriciate if next time someone walks out of that store she dosent yell out rude remarks and if she has personal issues with customers she should be professional enough to keep her problems away from work.

Last Friday I was in that store shopping and needed some help, and the so called manager who's name I believe was Lynn. Was rude and had me stand and wait while she was looking at paperwork. Before she would help me. I was very dissapointed in the customer service and I wont be back. It is a real shame that store has went so down hill so quickly. It used to be one of my favorites especially having teen aged children who love the clothes from there. I will go to the ranger store from now on if I even shop rue 21.

Wow get over it! Companies require certain things to be done at certain times. She has a lot more to do than to help someone as crabby as your attitude appears

You guys don not understand you have to work there to understand. They do have a heavy work load and the customers are messy, but your manager could make it fun but if you have a bad manager then your life is awaful. I would never recommend anyone to work there.

Rue 21 Hershey Pa $10 off $20 etc. Coupon

Tried to use this coupon in Hershey Pa, knowing full well the terms and conditions regarding the 40% off items and BYGO 1/2 off eligible items. When you shop at this store, every rack has a set price on top, for example, $8, $12 etc. As a consumer, you think "Wow, what a deal". Then you go to the register and are told that the items you chose do not fall under the conditions. I then asked, "Where are the coupon eligible items?" Nothing in the store says 40% off. I am told that they are the 40% off and BYGO 1/2 off items. Then she told me it was my responsibility to figure out which prices on the racks were discouned by 40% and I should bring a calculator!! Then she tried to give me a coupon for a future visit. I told her to save it for the poor girl behind me with a *** load of clothes, thinking she was getting the same deal..lol. I WILL NEVER SHOP AT A RUE 21 AGAIN!

I work at rue 21 and our company policy is customer service no matter what! We make exception for everything!

It's very easy to manually price adjust items that are not coupon eligible. Also, at the beggining of every coupon event we receive a list of things it works on which I have shown and gone over with customers!

No excuses on that! Instead of writing in here you need to write into the rue 21 website...any manager on the floor will immediately be written up

I've worked in retail for a few years and I agree with both the employee's and customers on this one. All the fine print and exclusions on the coupons are confusing, sometimes misleading, and frustrating - for both sales associates and customers.

I've worked for a few different retailers there are always people who are upset because they can't use their coupons on particular things and it's hard to figure out what they can use it on and I always feel really bad having to dissapoint the customers. It's really tricky because the companies all do stuff like that and make it confusing. Unless you've worked in retail for a while and know all the lingo and tricks then it's hard to decipher the fine print and exclusions. It's ridiculous that customers do basically have to carry around a calculator to figure out what they can use their coupons on - that's not right.

When people ask me about their coupons if I don't know quickly just by looking at what they have if the coupons work on those things I always offer to double check for them and try to explain as clearly as I can what they can use it on. I know from shopping at rue21 that most of the coupons you can't use on merchandise that is 40% off so that usually means most of the markdows if there is a promotion on them on top of the mark down, like if something in $19.99, marked down to $16.99 then you can use the coupon on it but if it's marked down to $16.99 and there is a promotion on markdowns making the markdowns 50% off all markdowns, then you can't use the coupon on it. If there is something that was originally $19.99 but it's marked down to $7.99 without a promotion, I know that is more then 40% off it's original price so the I can't use a coupon on it. If that is the case, if I were the sales person I would apologize and try to help the customer figure out in the most simple way what they can use the coupon on.

For example, I'd say you can use it on any full priced items not on promotion and markdown's that are not 40% off the original prices or lower, so that is mostly this rack of markdowns here because they aren't on promotion but not these two racks because they are marked down and half off the mark down, and most of the $3 and $5 racks are discounted more then 40% - but if there is anything you like and you aren't sure about I can double check it for you.

Those are just examples, I don't know what the coupon in the complaint was or the fine print said. I'm just saying it is confusing unless you know the in's and out of retail. As someone who's worked in retail, even as an employee I do feel badly to have to tell customers that they can't use a coupon on something.

I know some sales people are rude but I hope people know that there are other sales associates out there that don't want to confuse the customers and have to work with these tricky coupons too and they do want to help the customers be satisfied and make it easy and pleasant for customers to shop and use their coupons. I feel your pain!

- but there are some store employee's out there who really do want to help the customers use their coupons and I've heard many fellow associates also feel bad and dread having to tell customers that their coupons are not elligible for this or that and they hate having to do it as much as customers hate hearing it. For the most part, I think both employees and customers are on the same side on this one (even if some employee's are just so used to it they come off as they don't care and don't want to help the customers, sometimes that isn't true they've just become so hardened to it over the years it comes off as uncaring).

Guest

Lol Alison! The burden should not be on the customers to figure out the sale items and correlating coupons.

A calculator..really?Let me guess..you probably are employed there. Good for you, you fit right in with that attitude.

If not, you came to this thread for a reason..troll maybe? You should really think before you type :) Educate yourself in retail and ethics..honestly ;)

Customers should learn to read, honestly.

Customer service is not satisfactory. They also have a bathroom and do not allow you to use it. They are okay with you spending $300 + dollars but want you to go else where to use the restroom. I will not be spending my money on myself, children, spouse, or any other gift card like I had done over the years and especially during Christmas time. The 2 girls working also gossipped openly about another employee while I shopped. They discussed how horrible that person was and the conversation was loud and petty and there is no respect while loyal shoppers are present.

No retail store allows customers to use their private bathroom in the back of a store. That is what the mall/outlet facility bathrooms are for.

Guest

Hi,

I've worked in retail before so I can tell you that the "Bathroom Policy"

is mainly to keep you safe. If a bathroom is not out on the floor then most retail stores don't allow customers to use it for safety and security reasons. If the bathroom is in the back of the store, than most likely there is also heavy equipment and fixtures. If customers were left unattended they could get hurt. As for security leaving a customer back there could open up an opportunity for stealing.

As for the workers gossiping I'm sure no company wants workers like that so you have every right to be upset. I have been an employee and a consumer in retail so I can see both sides. I do know from shopping at Rue 21 they have some of the best deals if all. I'd probably talk to a manager about your experience.

Guest

This Rue 21 has the worst customer service I have ever seen in my life. I walked in there to look around and I found a few things to try on.

I could not get anyone to open a fitting room for me. The manager ran to the back as soon as I got there and then the cashier spent all day talking to the customer that was checking out. When he got away from the cash wrap, he gave me one look and just went on with his business and didn't even ask me for help. I put my stuff away and then left.

I will never shop at this store again. They are the rudest people I have ever met in my life.

I don't get why it's so hard to ASK for a fitting room. Rue 21 employees are very short staffed and most the time have 1 or 2 people on the floor...we do not have people stationed in the fitting room like forever 21!

Our fitting rooms are behind a wall and we can't see people in their nor can we constantly keep checking with them. He was probably chatting about fragrances or building a new VIP customer.

I have had so many people come up to me all grumpy and say they need a fitting room and a bunch of people are waiting. Seriously all you need to do is ASK maybe before you get all irritated...had you come up close to the register the employee wouldn't have chatted so long and would have helped you...it's people like you who get people fired for *** reasons like that.

You must not have ever gone to other stores besides Rue 21… at EVERY other store I've been to, the workers will come up and ask if I want a fitting room, or there will be a worker waiting in the area. The Rue 21 stores I have been to have had more than 1 or 2 people on the floor, but all the workers were doing was standing there talking to each other. Clearly the Rue 21 stores that I go to aren't the only one with *** customer service, thus implying that Rue 21's customer service in general is bad.

Guest

I wholeheartedly agree with you on the fact that Rue 21 has the worst customer service out of any other stores. I used to shop there a lot, because I honestly do like the store itself, but after having THREE bad encounters with the workers, I have decided to never shop there again.

I had the exact same problem with the fitting rooms.

The workers ignored me as I stood by the fitting room, clearly waiting to be let into one. Also, the workers did not smile at all and completely ignored me when I said thank you to them.

Rue21- Not a fun experience

I went to my local Rue21 today expecting to use a coupon ($5 off a purchase of $20 or more) I received when I signed up to receive their emails. My plans were abrubtly changed when I reached the door of the small town clothing store. I was displeased with this shopping trip for several reasons. First, the store chose to blast horrible music throught the entire store. One can't even hear themselves think or decide which items they would like to purchase. Secondly, the racks of clothing were horribly unorganized. While sorting through a rack of rompers/dresses that were on sale for buy one get one five dollars, I found a dress that was my size (which happens to be a small), but suddenly I found a pattern of extra large, medium, large, small, medium, extra small, etc. How unorganized! How do they expect their customers to find the correct size? After finding only one small and a medium, I decided to venture to the opposite side of the store to browse the belts, as I needed a few more dollars to be able to use the coupon. Just like the first clothing rack, the one dollar belt display was hideous. Belts were scattered here and there, once again not organized according to size. I found a fairly cute yet simple belt, but was upset when I discovered that it was a medium/large. I was determined to find this belt in my size, so I searched the rack. When I found no belts in my size, I turned to the jewelry section. There was actually a very good sale on jewelry. Most of the bracelets, necklaces, and rings were 75% off the already reduced price. I found two cute necklaces that were very cheap (advertised as $1 on the sign). While all of this was happening, the only employee in the store was talking on the phone in the corner of the building. Being so far away from the cash register, someone could have robbed the store while she was chatting on the phone. Most stores offer friendly employees that continually ask how their customers are doing, however, Rue21 lacks that feature. After my horrible experience, I mustered up enough courage to take my purchases to the check out counter. My mother and I waited there for at least ten minutes until the cashier was able to terminate her phone conversation and come help us. She finally came over and rang up our order. I barely even removed the coupon from my purse and she said, "Is that a coupon? If so, you can't use it. It isn't valid on 40% off items." I was so angry that I should have put everything back and left the store, but I didn't. Then, almost as an apology for telling me that I couldn't use the coupon, she told us that we could purchase a perfume for only $9.99. I didn't want the perfume. I came to the store for one reason: to use the coupon. I later found out that the necklaces that I thought were only $1 rang up as $2. In conclusion, Rue21 has very cute clothes and accessories, but I was very displeased with my experience.

Only rue bucks work on everything, including clearance, all the othe coupons work on regular price and some bogo's not on bogo free items, or if it's on sale or clearance 40% off of more, it shows it on the fine print. And not every store is like that, there are great customers service in other stores thru out the company.

Guest

I usually ask about coupons when I first enter a store and BEFORE I begin shopping. That way I know what I can use the coupon for and what I can't.

It's SO much better that way! ( I also read the exclusions on the coupon)

Guest

You probably should have checked your coupons because they will usually say if they can be combined with another offer...as far as the clearance and/or sales racks being a mess, like really, what do you expect? Every clearance rack I have ever seen has always been a disaster.

Guest

As an employee of Rue 21, I can definitely tell you that this unacceptable. The management at the location I work for is very adamant about putting the customers first.

Always. We do our best in maintaining the store and keeping it neat. However, there is a downfall to that.

When there are great sales going on, the store gets very busy and it gets very difficult to maintain neatness when attending to customers constantly. As for your experience, one can see that the location you visited was under very poor management.

Guest

I am an ASM at rue21 and I can promise you we really do organize our articles. It's just sad that after 5 customers the store can literally be destroyed.

Guest

I really like Rue 21. They have great clothing for cheap.

They may need to be more organized, but I guess I like searching like a treasure hunt.

They give a little and take a little. Those coupons have their stimpulations, but things like ruebucke don't.

Guest

i was just at the North Conway Rue 21 and it was a mess But I was in earlier in the day and tons of people were ripping through it They made the mess not the sales people (I left it was so crowded) But when I returned I got three very nice sales girls/women that all helped me (I was returning a cologne I bought for my 15 and 16 year old sons that they didn't like) they each had a favorite and one girl looked at my receipt and said judging from the one you kept they might like this one So I sprayed the three different ones they recomended on different parts of my arms plus one I thought looked interesting said Id be back (I can not judge by paperstrips) When I came back they all wanted to know which ones I liked and even remembered where I sprayed the one they liked I bought 3 (not much for one of the girls suggestion but everyones different) at $10 for boys just getting out of Axe they were a deal I think the girls were great even if they HAD to push them or not

Guest

Obviously, some of you guys comments are rude. You should never complain and say anything about customers.

I work for a known popular giant company. I know sometimes some customers can mess up a area. Their job however is just to shop there not pay attention to how they shop. Yes, it would be nice for some ppl not to be messy and ignorant but us employees get paid to do our job.

To make sure our customer is having a great experience. They spend their money to keep us with a job and in business!!! Yes, ppl should pay attention to coupons but alot of main customers goal is to find something in their size, something that is nice looking and a great deal!!!! We get customers who almost never read fine prints.

We still try to make sure our customer is happy and leave with a smile. Everybody have goid and bad days!

No u can't please everybody no matter how hard you try. Giving somebody a good shopping experience as if u would want one is z must!!!

Guest

You obviously don't know anything about Rue21 then do you now? We do not choose the songs we play.

We do our best to make the store look nice every night after fixing what rude customers do to it all day. Belts are usually never organised by size, but rather than by style, by what they are. I don't know why that store only had 1 person on duty beings they're supposed to have atleast 3, 2 associates and a manager. You should have expected that the coupon would not work for clearance items, as it specifically says on the coupon that it excludes clearance.

Beings our CEO's wife spends hours a day making these fragrances, we are required to at least talk about them, but no, we don't necessarily risk termination, but we could get our hours cut. No, I'm not really a good salesman when it comes to trying to sell fragrances only because I can't think of what to say as I'm trying to sell them, but I still get a pretty fair amount of hours.

We are told to get at least 3 no's from a customer before dropping the whole subject of fragrances. So please, do some research, and put yourself in our shoes before you start discriminating against our company and our employees.

Praise the Lord. I don't even work for this company but have been using them for years and I'm just in love.

Have some compassion and realize customers ruin their organization not the employees ! They don't have all day to fix all these mess up while Manning the register like u expect. If u don't like it....don't go back. If u like the clothes not the stores ....shop online.

Also the Coupon error was your fault.....read them.

What was she supposed to do take your coupon and be fired because it doesn't work?? I'm in disbelief about the number of petty complaints.

My 18 year old daughter started at Rue 21 as her first "Real Job". She loved the job.

She loved the customers that she encountered. Her manager, Cody, gave her rave reviews the first couple of months. She worked crazy hours through the holidays. She came in when told, stayed late, covered shifts at the last minute.

Her manager even told me that she wishes she had more like my daughter. After the first time Cody Threatened my daughter with corrective actions if she didn't get to work during a horrible storm here in Iowa, I became weary of the type of manager this Cody actually was. My daughter was named Employee of the Month in February.During that month, Cody became mean, nasty and made more threats of corrective actions to the group of girls working. My daughter didn't buckle to the threats, Cody gave her No hours.

She has been told through other employees that Cody was upset that she was looking fur another part time job. It has been the whole month and my daughter has yet to work 1 hour. I have been calling customer service and E mailing. I get response that someone will call soon.

I am anxious to know if the Head Office of Rue21 is aware of how the employees are treated. Is this manager, Cody, treating her workers this way because they are young adults and maybe don't know how to Gerry their needs to met? I can't help but wonder why the employees are not allowed to know how to get ahold of the regional managers. There has git to be some way to get to some one that can help these young workers.

I would love a response from ANYBODY in the Rue21 Company. Linda Hogue Dubuque, Iowa

Which one in NC? Because I am not only living in NC, but have been shopping at Rue21 for 2 years. The clothes DO last more than one wash, and the store gets super busy so it's understandable if the employees aren't up your *** all the time.
